Mediation
What is mediation? Mediation is a process for resolving a source of ongoing conflict. The mediation offered here differs from that conducted by members of the legal profession which results in legally binding contracts and expensive legal fees.
Who uses mediation? Any two or more people who want to resolve an intractable conflict. Typically disputes between family members, work associates, employers and employees, neighbours and members of organisations can be resolved practically, quickly and at reasonable cost.
How does it work? Mediation is a process. The solution comes from the parties, not the mediator. The final outcome, or Agreement, is not legally binding but tends to be honoured when all parties work honestly and are prepared for some level of compromise to achieve an workable agreement (Mediation is not appropriate where parties are hostile or there are fears for physical or emotional safety).
What does the mediator do? My role as a neutral third party is to ensure each party has equal time to speak and be heard without interruption or comment and to keep the process reasonable and moving towards a workable agreement.
How long does the process take? Ideally, allow two hours so everybody is heard and solutions can be discussed in detail. Additional sessions are available if required.
